23 April 2025, Sant Jordi de ses Salines, Ibiza

By Claire Miller

On 23 April each year, the town of Sant Jordi de ses Salines in Ibiza comes to life with festivities to honour its patron saint, Sant Jordi. Rooted in history and rich in cultural traditions, the festival is a beloved event that unites locals and visitors alike in a joyful celebration.

Sant Jordi de ses Salines, located in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, is a charming village known for its historic church and close ties to Ibiza's traditional way of life. The town's patron saint, Sant Jordi (Saint George), is widely venerated in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. According to legend, Sant Jordi slayed a dragon to save a princess, and his feast day has long been associated with themes of courage, protection, and community.

The Sant Jordi Festival reflects these themes through religious observances, folk traditions, and lively social gatherings that have been cherished for generations.
