Ibiza, our beautiful island with its stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity, offers the perfect backdrop for ecotourism—responsible travel that focuses on conserving the environment and improving the well-being of local communities. As you plan your visit, consider these eco-friendly activities and tips to ensure your trip leaves a positive footprint.

Choose Eco-Friendly Transport: Wherever possible, opt for walking or cycling to explore the natural beauty and reduce your environmental impact. For longer distances, try Ibiza’s excellent public transport network of buses. Or alternatively rent an low-emission or electric car, taking advantage of the numerous car charging points in Ibiza Town.

Birdwatching: Explore Ibiza’s diverse avian population by embarking on birdwatching tours, either solo or guided, through the island’s natural parks. These tours offer a peaceful way to connect with nature while supporting local conservation efforts. The Ses Salines Natural Park for example, is an ideal place to see diverse fauna and flora.

Sustainable sea activities:  Kayaking, paddle surfing, and sailing are excellent ways to explore the coastline while minimising your environmental impact. These activities allow you to experience the marine environment in a respectful and sustainable manner. Snorkelling also allows you to discover Ibiza’s vibrant marine ecosystems and seagrass meadows. An excellent way to appreciate the island’s underwater beauty without disturbing the environment.

Hiking Trails: Ibiza offers an array of hiking trails that showcase the island’s stunning natural beauty, catering to walkers of all levels. From the dramatic cliffside views of Santa Eulària des Riu’s Puig de ses Torretes to the rich cultural heritage of Ibiza’s UNESCO-listed Dalt Vila, each trail promises unique scenery and experiences. Adventurers can explore the rugged coastal path from Cala d’en Serra to the Moscarter lighthouse in Sant Joan de Labritja or immerse themselves in the artistic and beach-filled route near Sant Josep de sa Talaia’s Torre d’en Rovira. Whether trekking through the serene Ses Salines Natural Park or savouring the crystal-clear waters of Cala Salada in Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza’s trails are perfect for discovering the island’s breath-taking landscapes.

Sustainable Ways to Enjoy Ibiza

Organic Wine Tasting: Visit local vineyards that practice sustainable viticulture and enjoy organic wine tasting tours. These tours not only delight your palate but also support eco-friendly farming practices.

Cycling Routes: Ibiza boasts an impressive range of cycling routes, catering to all skill levels and offering breathtaking views of its diverse landscapes. For a relaxed ride, the Port des Torrent route meanders through pine forests and along coastal cliffs, passing idyllic beaches like Cala Bassa and Platges de Comte, with opportunities for a refreshing swim. Intermediate routes include the northeast trail from Sant Carles de Peralta, which features stops at serene beaches such as Cala Mestella and Cala Boix, as well as the historic Torre d’en Valls with its panoramic views of Tagomago island. Meanwhile, the scenic ride from Puig d’en Valls to Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera includes rolling paths, stony tracks, and striking viewpoints near Montecristo. For seasoned cyclists seeking a challenge, the very demanding northwest route traverses the dramatic cliffs of na Xamena and the serene Buscastell Valley, ending with steep ascents to iconic landmarks like the Sant Joan de Labritja watchtower and Puig d’en Teixidor. Each route promises an unforgettable way to experience Ibiza’s natural beauty and cultural charm.

Organic Farming Tours: Participate in organic farm tours and gastronomic agrotourism experiences. These offer farm-to-table experiences, allowing you to taste fresh, locally produced food and learn about sustainable farming practices.

Buying Local Produce: Skip the supermarket and visit local markets for your food shopping. Weekly markets offer high-quality local produce at reasonable prices, supporting local farmers and reducing your carbon footprint. Find fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, honey, liqueurs, wines and more. For souvenirs, choose local artisan products instead of cheaper, mass produced items, helping local communities, fair working standards and your carbon footprint.

Where you stay:  Accommodation that sources local & sustainable menus,  and commits to recycling and avoiding food waste, further supports the island’s sustainability efforts. Consider a hotel, retreat or restaurant's eco-credentials before you book. Find many stunning & sustainable options in our Explore section.
